A "legendary" winter storm is poised to smash into the eastern half of the nation, but Arizona will only see showers and cooler weather.

Arizona temperatures dipped Monday, falling nearly 10 degrees from Sunday’s highs, while Bullhead City recorded wind gusts up to 36 mph. The Phoenix area is expected to reach a high of 75 degrees Tuesday under mostly sunny skies.

Tuesday was a mild day, with high temperatures climbing into the upper 70s in the Valley.

A stormy stretch will bring rain and cooler weather to the Valley, while northern Arizona braces for snow, freezing temperatures and travel impacts.

Arizona is in store for an outstanding week of weather.  Here in the valley and up north will experience predominantly sunny, dry conditions.

Phoenix hit 78 degrees Friday, kicking off a warm holiday weekend with temperatures nearly 10 degrees above average. Sunny skies and highs in the mid-70s are expected through Monday before a potential storm system brings cooler weather later next week.

The system is expected to move in on Wednesday around mid-afternoon, bringing widespread moisture across the state.

Thursday morning will start mainly dry across Arizona, but the second storm coming from the northwest will bring heavy snow to the mountains and heavier downpours to the Valley midday through the night.
