The most significant threat arrives Thursday night as the coldest air mass of the season sweeps into Michigan.
Forecasts might not agree on the details, but one thing seems likely: a winter storm is headed east this weekend.
A major winter storm will track across the country this weekend, bringing significant snowfall to parts of the Commonwealth.
The snowstorm is forecast to be a "significant weather event," according to a National Weather Service Morristown office meteorologist Charles Dalton. East Tennessee could receive an unusually high snowfall total.
After a chilly Tuesday, southwest winds will warm temperatures into the 40s on Wednesday and into the 50s on Thursday. Another blast of colder air will begin to move in late Friday, triggering a few rain showers on Friday before temperatures turn significantly colder on Saturday.
Residents are feeling the cold weather, but there will be a slight break Thursday. All eyes are on the weekend with the possibility of a winter storm.
