I am standing at the edge of the Great Rift Valley along Nairobi-Naivasha highway, Kenya. It's part of the East African Rift, which starts in Tanzania to the south and continues northward into Ethiopia. The valley contains a chain of volcanoes, some of which are still active. It's a sight to behold. It's cold here. It lies 8000ft above sea level. We stopped at the rift on our way to Hell's Gate National Park, lying south of Lake Naivasha.
