I paint furniture. I believe part of being a well-rounded refinisher is seeing and understanding the qualities and proper times for using each finish available to them. Unfortunately, bad paint jobs, such as the one shown at the beginning of this video, are the reason that paint has gotten a bad name. This amazing historic footage from 1916 shows our volunteer crews performing a practice lifeboat launch on Formby beach. Horses tow the boat onto the waves - the boathouse was 100 yards inland. Formby lifeboat station was closed a few years after this film was taken - it's claimed that it was the world's first purpose-built lifeboat station, having been established in the 1770s.
