Using wooden wedges to cleave a log in half. This is an ancient carpenter, or woodwright’s technique. With the help of the incredible hewer @marlinsquirrel we first make a notch on both sides of the timber (not shown) which gives us a line that we mark with the axe. Then we start at the end of the tree and add wedges, cutting any crossing fibres as we go. Then keep hammering on those wedges and watching the split until it turns into two pieces !
