If you have ever wondered how the hoop barn does in high winds! Got an absolutely punishing storm this afternoon, dropped 2 inches of rain, pea sized hail, and 60 mph winds. We waited it out with the yearlings in the tin shed cause we couldn’t walked up to the hoop in the storm. We baled cornstalks today. These bales are used to bed the pigs in hoop barn and our outdoor gestation sows. Cornstalks are not my favorite bedding for pigs. I like straw better. We do not mow these stalks first, we use the twin rake, set it a little higher and rake the loser stalks and husks.
