These calves are ready for weaning. We pop these little yellow devices in their nose (painless) and it creates a flap which pushes their mothers teets away and prevents them from being able to suckle. We leave them in for about 10 days and this gives the calves time to get used to not drinking milk and the cows to get used to the calves not being as reliant on them. Then, after the 10 days when we actually wean them, it is a lot less stressful on them both. Less stress means they keep on growing

Newborn calf hooves: Calves have extra padding on the bottom of their hooves to protect the mom during the birthing process.
