The Pecos River begins in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in Northern New Mexico. The river basin covers around 44,300 square miles of open plains which Comanches preferred. This area is rich in Comanche history. Many Comanche war parties traveled this diverse area and described a river with utmost clarity in its appearance. It was crystal in appearance.
